Privacy Policy

The short version

An account is an email address and a password. There are no ads, no analytics trackers and no advertising identifiers in the app. We don't sell or share personal information. Your recordings and any audio file you bring to Practice stay on your phone.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, an optional display name, your password stored as a hash we can't read back, the date you signed up, and the songs on your Saved and Continue shelves. That's the account — it exists so those shelves follow you onto another phone.

Likes. When you like a song, your device sends a random string it made up for itself the first time, so one like counts once. It isn't your name, your email or your account, and it isn't linked to them.

Song requests and the contact form. Whatever you type: the artist and title, your message, and your name and email if you choose to fill them in. We read these to decide what to make next and to reply to you.

Night rooms. The room name and the name you put in the queue. Everyone in the room can see them.

Ordinary server records. Like any website, our server sees the request: an IP address, the kind of device or browser, and which page or song was asked for. We use it to keep the service up and to stop abuse, and we don't build a profile out of it.

Donations. Donating opens a Stripe payment page. Your card is entered there, on Stripe's page, never on ours — we never receive or store card numbers.

What we don't do

No advertising, no ad networks, no third-party analytics or tracking SDK in the app. No advertising identifier. No selling or sharing of personal information, and no cross-context behavioural advertising. The app sends no push notifications today; if we ever add them, it will ask you first.

Camera and microphone

Record uses the front camera and the microphone, and only while you are recording a take. The video and the mix are put together on the phone. Nothing is streamed to us and nothing is uploaded. If you save the take, it goes to your own photo library; if you share it, that's you choosing to.

Files you bring to Practice

In the app, a file you pick with Practice is opened from your phone and played on your phone. It is not uploaded to us, not published, and never becomes a catalogue title. Uploading is not how songs get onto Peraoke — a title becomes site karaoke only when we prepare and publish it ourselves.

The Practice desk on peraoke.com works differently, and it is not open to the public yet: a file uploaded there is processed on our server to separate the voice from the music. It belongs to your Practice session, it is not added to the catalogue, and it is removed when the session is no longer needed.

What the app asks our server for

The app reads the published catalogue, and asks for the lyrics and the backing for the title you opened. Those requests tell our server which song you're about to sing, along with the ordinary server records above. Browsing and playing don't need an account.

How long we keep it

Your account and its shelves are kept until you delete them. Requests and messages are kept while we're working through them. Likes are a count. Server records are kept briefly for security.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings, then Delete account. Your saved songs and Continue go with it, straight away, and it can't be undone. You can also email info@peraoke.com and ask us to do it.

Your choices in California and elsewhere

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. We don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of. Asking won't get you treated differently. Email info@peraoke.com and we'll answer — usually within two days.

Children

Peraoke is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If a child's account was made here, email us and we'll delete it.

Keeping it safe

Passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens are signed, and traffic to peraoke.com is encrypted. No system is perfect, but nothing sensitive is collected here in the first place.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change matters, we'll say so in the app or on the site.
